Porn star and feminist supporter of Hilary Clinton, Tasha Reign has hit the campaign trail. She is targeting California’s young voters by speaking to students at universities.

Tasha – real name Rachel Swimmer, however, is not campaigning for Hilary but against the US state of Carlifornia’s Proposition 60.

So what is Proposition 60? Proposition 60 is a measure, one of 17 on the California ballot in November, that would require entertainers in the porn industry to wear condoms while filming sex scenes.

Tasha fundamentally disagrees with the proposed legal change, which is likely to have a profound impact on not just Carlifornia – the centre of the porn universe but also the rest of the US and potentially beyond.

Tasha, 27 and a graduate of UCLA believes that the proposed change is an assault on her human rights, her artistic freedom and the very constitution itself.

She also says that it is not practical given the type sex she engages in and the unusual positions that she therfore has to adopt. For instance, it will be almost impossible according to her to use codoms when it is anal, double penetration or a gangbang with several guys.

Tasha rightly points out that it would be difficult to ensure that the same condom doesn’t find itself inside more than one woman. She asks, ‘do you stop filming while an actor swaps latex?’

And what about the condom breaking during rough sex because sometimes porn shoots are nothing like the type of sexual activity people indulge in at home. She notes that it is very difficult to maintain an erection for 45 minutes and to be able to ‘pop’ with a condom on.

Tasha believes that the law will The measure, she says, encourage people to sue adult film stars and trying to regulate the industry, which she thinks has effective self-regulation through regular screening for HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases.

But fundamentally, Reign sees this as issue of women’s rights and invasive legislation concocted by men to control what she does with her body.

One of the major supporters of the proposed law is Michael Weinstein, president of the Aids Healthcare Foundation who claims that condoms in porn is about protecting California employees at work.

Most major newspapers and the main political parties in the state – Republican, Democratic and Libertarian and other NGOs are all against the proposition.

Does Tasha Reign have a point or do the proponents of Proposition 60 right in trying to introduce this law? California’s electorate will decide in a few weeks.
